Opting for medical study in USA gives you better career prospects in the future. Before you get to that point, though, you’ll need to look for the right medical school. Take a look at the following considerations to help you decide which one hits the mark for you:
Location
Where do you want to live for the next 4 years? That’s because you’re likely going to live near or close to where you go to school. Convenient and easy access should be factored into your decision. If the school is great but the neighborhood or city isn’t—high crime rate, high living costs, etc.—you might end up struggling so much to go to school that you never get to finish your degree in the first place.
List
How many schools are you on your list? The U.S. News says 13 to 15 schools is a good number to shoot for. Thinking about applying to more? Every application needs to be tailor-made for the school to increase your chances of getting accepted. That’s going to require a lot of time and effort. If you apply to more, that’s going to be a considerable drain on your time and funds. You could end up derailing your application with poorly prepared materials.
Mix
When you scout around for schools where you can start your medical study in USA, do your research and apply to a mix of schools. That means sending applications to schools wherein the school’s average number match your profile, high tier ones wherein your numbers are a bit lower (this could be bypassed if your other materials are strong) and backup schools where your numbers are much higher than the average so you’ll have one or two applications in the bag already. This way, you’ll have a shot at your dream school and still have practical options in place.
