3 Ways to Prepare for an MRI Scan

by | Jun 6, 2019 | Medical and health

If your doctor has ordered an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan for you, it means that he wants to be able to see something specific that is happening in your body underneath the surface. You will be referred to an MRI Imaging Centerin Burbank CA. When your appointment is made, either you or your doctor will give the center the necessary information so they can scan the appropriate area.

Here are three ways to prepare for your MRI scan.

1. Eat

People react to medical procedures—like MRI scans—very differently. It is normal to be nervous. Even if you are nervous, though, you are encouraged to eat, normally. Missing a meal is never a good idea, and while it is true that nerves mixed with food can be a bad combination, you should relax. Getting yourself worked up to a point where you cannot keep food down is not optimal. The scan is painless and only takes a couple of minutes to complete. The wait in the waiting room will be longer than the actual scan. Even if you don’t have much of an appetite, at least eat a light snack.

The only time you should skip a meal for an MRI scan is if you are directed to do so by your doctor or the medical imaging center.

2.Take Your Medications

Unless directed by your doctor or the medical imaging center’s staff otherwise, you should take your medications as your normally would. If you normally take medications on a full stomach or with food, this makes eating important (see #1 above!).

3. Arrive On Time

When you have an appointment at an MRI Imaging Center Burbank CA, it’s important that you arrive on time. Ideally you should try to arrive at least 15 minutes early. Most likely you will have to wait once you are checked-in, and arriving early gives you the opportunity to get comfortable before the procedure. For more information visit Glendale MRI.
