Obtaining Quotes From A Louisville Moving Company

by | Dec 27, 2016 | Moving

Before selecting any moving service in Louisville, it will be important to get a quote from at least two or three different movers. Getting more quotes than a small number will take more time, but getting fewer quotes may not give you the complete picture of the price range that is fair in the market for your move.

Every moving company will complete the quote or estimate process differently. Some companies will have you answer questions over the phone with one of their move coordinators or move booking staff. You may also be asked to complete an online checklist. Both of these are general estimates and are the least accurate.

The best option is to have the moving company send a representative to do a survey of your home. This will provide the most accurate estimate and also give you the opportunity to discuss any special services you may wish to add. This could include packing, particular handling of antiques or valuable items or other needs.

Binding Quote

Some moving companies will be able to provide a binding quote. This is the price you will pay for the amount to move and for the services requested at the time of the quote. If you add more items not considered in the survey or if you ask for additional services, the price will change accordingly.

There is also a not-to-exceed quote by a moving company. This gives you the top price you may pay, which cannot be exceeded. However, if the weight on the truck is lighter, you will pay a lower amount.

Non-Binding Quote

The non-binding quote gives you a rough idea of the cost, but the actual price will be based on the weight of the items on the truck. While you may pay less, it is also very likely you may pay a lot more. This is the type of quote most often associated the phone or checklist types of quotes.

Be sure to compare quotes from moving companies that are the same type. Also, ask if you are not sure about the type of quote and be clear before hiring any Louisville mover.
