If you have a bulky or unconventional load to haul out of Independence, Kansas, they you will benefit from using a flat bed trailer. There are different varieties of the flat bed, often used to transport machinery to lumber. Large loads are often top-heavy and towing vehicles means dealing with wheels. It’s important to use extra precautions when loading cargo.
Fastening the Load
Before heading out on the road, it’s important to fasten the load securely. If it’s not fastened down properly, you can lose it. Some of the most important tie-down accessories include nylon straps, basket straps, V-straps and a ratchet. You can use chains in some cases if nylon is not available
.
Securing Vehicles
First you will need to get the vehicle positioned on the flat bed trailer. The car should be positioned evenly on the flat bed trailer and over its axle. The car should be pulled forward as far as possible but not so far it touches the front of the trailer. Set the parking brake and place a chock block in front of and behind one wheel at least. Use basket straps and the ratchet to secure the wheels so they do not roll during transport. Use a V-strap in the front and one in the back of the vehicle to ensure it is properly fastened down. You can use tow hooks if the vehicle is equipped with them. But do not hook a V-strap to any of the suspension parts. Use the ratchet to tighten everything down.
Driving Safety
When driving with a heavy load, it pays to be careful. Maintain a reasonable speed and avoid making any quick maneuvers. Allow for plenty of time to break and try to drive smoothly through turns and curves. Take it easy, even if you need more time for your trip.
