Polymer Anti-Corrosion Coatings

Whenever a structure or object stands outdoors or is a component operating within a harsh environment, the risk of corrosion exists. Corrosion is a costly process. It systematically and indiscriminately destroys metal infrastructure and various components alike. It wreaks havoc on underground sewer pipes and above ground hydro poles alike. Even backyard furniture cannot escape the blight that is corrosion. The way to address this situation starts by providing all items, products, and parts with anti-corrosion coatings.

Polymer Anti-Corrosion Coating

Polymers are plastics. They consist of multiple repeating units. Industries prize them for their excellent anti-corrosion properties. Several polymers are available for use. Preferences for one type to another rely on the base metal, the application and the specifications.

Acrylic Coatings: These polymers are water-based and environmentally-friendly
Bitumen-Based Coatings: Effective against of water but not against solvents
Epoxy: Epoxy polymer coatings are offered in several types including

  • Amine Epoxy
  • Coal Tar Epoxy
  • Fusion-Bonded Epoxy
  • Multi-Layer Epoxy
  • Polyamide Epoxy

Ethylene-chlorotrifluoroethylene (ECTFE): This is a copolymer popular for protecting wires and cable in producers for the automotive and aerospace industries

All of the above polymers have in common the ability to protect the metal they cover from corrosion.

Anti Corrosion Coating

Oxidation is the principal cause of corrosion. The presence of excessive moisture or many chemicals are also factors in producing this destructive chemical reaction. Corrosion destroys steel pipes and affects the support beams of homes, buildings, and bridges. Whatever its origin, the result of corrosive elements is, at best, costly financially, at worst can result in harm and fatalities. An inexpensive and highly effective means of protecting many metal products and structures of all types, from corrosion is readily available and obtainable. Cover them with anti-corrosion coatings. It will extend their lives and prevent structural damage and the potential risk for physical harm.
