3 Signs Your HVAC System Needs Repair

by | Feb 5, 2019 | Heating and Air Conditioning

Every homeowner knows how frustrating it is when their HVAC system starts malfunctioning. And the worst part is, the unit always seems to fail when it is most needed! Here are some common signs that you need to call a technician immediately for an HVAC repair.

Increased Electricity Bill

A spike in your monthly electricity bills could mean a lot of things. Energy consumption usually fluctuates during season changes, but it could also mean that there is a leak in your system. You may want to have your HVAC system inspected if your energy bills keep increasing each month, especially if it hasn’t been checked in a while.

Strange Noise and Sounds

It’s normal for HVAC systems to make some noise when starting up. However, noisy clanking, hissing, banging, or grinding noises are not normal. It’s the unit’s way of saying that there is something wrong with it and needs to be checked immediately. It could be a sign of a compressor burning out or motor problems. In some cases, the unit may also give off a musty or electrical smell. It could also signify a mold issue or faulty electrical wiring. Either way, your unit will need extensive repair work.

Poor Airflow

When you hardly feel any air coming from the vents, don’t panic. At least, not yet. It could merely mean a blocked vent or clogged filter. However, if changing the filter or moving obstructions from the vents does not solve the problem, you may have a problem with its ductwork or compressor. If this is the case, then you need to call an expert to help fix the problem.

At the first sign of a problem, you need to call a technician to check your unit if an HVAC repair is necessary. Do not ignore the problem until it damages your unit completely. After all, buying a new one is far more expensive than having it repaired.
