Finding a bread that is low in carbohydrates can be a challenge for most people; they want to enjoy the tastiness of a good piece of bread in a sandwich or as a side to their meal without worrying that the carbohydrate levels found in that bread will put them way over their limit while on a diet plan or watching their weight. There are some options available in low carb bread that can make it easy for you to stay on your diet while still enjoying bread every day. Some of these options include multigrain bread, pita bread, gluten free bread, and sourdough bread.
Multigrain Bread
The first type of low carb bread that you can enjoy is called multigrain bread. This type of bread is great because not only does it allow you to have several servings of bread each day, but it also a great sources of many grains and other nutrients that you need in a healthy diet. For example, some multigrain bread will be made out of buckwheat, barley, wheat, and oats and are only comprised of 7 grams of carbohydrates. You can also get varieties that are wholegrain as well and should be avoided because these types have more carbs than just plain multigrain breads.
Pita Bread
The second type of low carb bread is pita bread. This bread is great if you want to use it for sandwiches and wraps for your meal. They contain many of the same great nutrients of multigrain bread such as oats and whole wheat. They have the added bonus of containing omega-3’s that are great for your body along with having no cholesterol in them. Pita bread is one of the best breads if you are trying to stay heart healthy and can even be found at restaurants now.
Gluten Free
When suffering from celiac disease, it is important to stay away from any sources of bread that contain gluten; this can be difficult enough, but when you are also trying to find low carb bread that goes along with a gluten free diet it can be really difficult. The best option to meet both of these is to find a wheat bread that is also gluten free. This type of bread will contain far fewer carbohydrates, and while it may not have the same texture as regular wheat bread; it is the best alternative available on a gluten free diet.
Sourdough
A type of bread that you may not have ever thought about when looking for low carb bread is sourdough but this type of bread is low in carbohydrates. It is important to note that besides being low in carbohydrates there is not much more nutritional value found in sourdough bread and it is mostly used as a healthy break from the other types of breads.
