You know better than anyone the difficulty of small spaces or crowded rooms. You avoided every situation you possibly could that might lead to an anxiety attack up until now, but a potential health issue has landed in your lap. Rather than stress and worry about your upcoming MRI, take a moment to consider MRI sedation in Orlando. You know the symptoms of your panic disorder, and you know you cannot help them any more than you can help breathing. Our trained MRI operators understand this too, and they offer MRI sedation not only for your safety, but for your peace of mind.
What is sedation
MRI sedation was first proposed as a means for anxious or claustrophobic patients to stay still and relaxed within an MRI machine. Our trained and compassionate MRI operators understand the importance of your peace of mind over all else, so they brought this to the table. Sedation is achieved through the delivery of medication, and although you will not lose consciousness, you will experience some level of amnesia. Therefore, you will not perceive and/or remember the MRI at all. An MRI examination can only be performed when you lie still and breathe evenly, and thus, your anxiety must be calmed to get a good MRI.
Reasons
Anxiety or claustrophobia are not the only reasons MRI sedation is offered to patients last year. Generally, if a patient has a condition which took away their ability to lie still on their own, sedation was administered. Conditions such as cerebral palsy or Tourette’s syndrome are examples of such a situation. They might also sedate—albeit lightly—infants, young children, and adolescents incapable holding still or understanding directions. You should never feel worried or hesitant to ask about sedation during your MRI, as our operators are happy to administer it to those who desire to be relaxed instead of nervous. Many patients choose sedation just so they can relax and nod off for a quick 20 min nap.
