Easy Ways to Keep LSU Off-Campus Housing Smelling Fresh

by | Jan 28, 2020 | Student Housing Center

As a busy student, you don’t always have the time to deep clean your apartment, which can lead to unpleasant smells. Fortunately, there are some “quick fixes” you can employ to aid in the situation. They’ll help keep your apartment smelling pleasant until you have the time to really get down to cleaning.

Keep Food Contained

Like any home, your LSU off-campus housing is full of food, and most of it should be in the kitchen. Try to make a habit of keeping food out of the rest of the apartment when possible. It’s easy for morsels of food to fall off of a plate and become hidden somewhere, never to be found until they turn rotten. Also, keep your food contained in airtight containers and bags and always clean up after cooking.

Garbage Duty

Your garbage has the potential of being the smelliest item in your apartment. On the other hand, with adequate garbage cans, bags, lids and regular emptying, your waste could go completely unperceived.

Keep Dirty Clothes Contained

Not counting the garbage can, dirty clothes are likely the smelliest items in your apartment. If you leave them out in the open, then their odors will eventually emanate throughout the apartment. Treat your dirty clothes like food and keep them contained in covered baskets or receptacles.

Don’t Depend on Air Fresheners

Air fresheners are an easy way to block odors. However, they’re no substitute for true cleaning. Utilize them sparingly or you may start using them instead of treating the actual source of the odors.
