Inflatable vs. Plastic Pros and Cons

by | May 10, 2017 | Water Sports

As with anything, there are always pros and cons. Inflatable water toys are easy to transport, while with plastic toys you don’t have to worry about inflating them. What you ultimately purchase will depend on your own preference and circumstances. When making a decision keep in mind where, when and how often you plan on using them.

Inflatable Water Toys

Pros

As previously mentioned, inflatable water toys are exactly as described, inflatable. This makes them easy to store, especially if you have limited space, and easy to travel with. If you and your family take beach trips every weekend, then inflatable toys are the way to go.

Another pro are the options available. You will have a wide variety to choose from so every family member can get a water toy that suits them! They are very appealing to young children since they are inviting.

Cons

You will have to take the time to inflate and deflate these toys; however an electric pump makes this easy. Inflatable water toys can be more expensive and can puncture easily. Once this happens you will need to purchase a new one.

Plastic Water Toys

Pros

Plastic water toys are less expensive, so if you discard them at the end of every summer replacing them won’t cost too much. You will have instant gratification, since you will not have to worry about inflating them.

Cons

Transporting plastic water toys, especially larger ones, can be problematic. If you plan on traveling with them, storage will probably be an issue. If you bend them the wrong way they will crack and will not be repairable. Constant sun can cause plastic to warp, erode or crack.

In the end, whether you decide on inflatable water toys or plastic ones both are temporary. Usually they will last only a summer or two before the need to be replaced. The best choice will be dependent on how much money you are willing to spend, what storage you have and how you will transport them.
