Organizing a Garage with a Closet

These are really small, so it does not take long for the closet to overflow. From there, it usually ends up flowing into the garage. First the junk is stacked up neatly along the walls. It does not take long before that just turns into a complete mess. Eventually there is no room left to park a car, and the garage just becomes an oversized junk closet. This story plays out with so many people. In fact, a vast majority of people never even park their cars inside their garage.

Assess the Situation

With a closet in a garage and just a little bit of effort, it is possible to reclaim the garage. To do so, it takes just a few steps and a little bit of sweat. The first thing to do is to assess the situation. If the goal is to eventually be able to park the car or cars in the garage again, then a person needs to take a measurement to determine how much clearance is needed between the car and the outside of the garage. This will give an idea of how deep the closet garage can be. Of course, this is not necessary if there are no plans to ever park a car in the garage.

Build the Closet

The next thing to do is to either build the closet or choose from an already prefabricated closet. Of course, the easiest thing to do (and sometimes cheaper thing to do) is to go with the already prefabricated closet. There needs to be ample room available for adjustments inside the closet. This means having panels where shelves can be easily adjusted or doors that can be easily moved. Needs always change when it comes to a garage closet and thinking this out ahead of time always makes things easier down the road.

Finally, there is the installation. For the most part, installations of garage closest are fairly easy. Most garages do not have any abnormal walls and the closets can usually attach right to the garage wall. Most closets can be mounted right on the drywall so long as it is drilled right into the studs. The frame of the closet is pretty easy to install. This is just held onto the wall with a wall screw. From there, the rest of the closet is just screwed to the frame.

It does not take long to install a closet. In just a matter of a few hours, a closet can really transform a garage. Installing a closet can do wonders to reclaim a garage.
