There are many different types of materials used to make playground and amusement park equipment. Some are made of wood. Others are made of metal. However, the most commonly used material when it comes to slides is FRP. Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic is used to make the majority of the slides that children often play on.
Playground Slides At most playgrounds, there is a jungle gym area where children can play on. It consists of many parts, such as monkey bars, steps, tunnels, and slides. Most play areas such as this are made entirely, or at least mostly, of FRP. An FRP slide can also be a stand-alone, where children can climb up a single slide. It doesn’t have to be part of the entire play area.
Amusement Park Slides When families go to an amusement park, they often see large slides that they can go on. These are big enough for even the parents to go down, so it is a fun thing for the whole family to do. Some of the slides will be the giant blow-up types, but most others are simply made of FRP.
Water Park Slides Another common type of slide is found at the water park. Adults and children alike have fun climbing up to the highest point, and sliding down in their bathing suits. They then land at the bottom in a pool full of water. These slides are most commonly made out of FRP.
Indoor Play Areas There are many indoor play areas for children to play in. Family Fun Centers, such as Chuck E. Cheese and Craig’s Cruisers, often contain some sort of play area that may resemble that of an outdoor playground. Even some fast food restaurants contain a play area such as this. The slides that are part of these indoor play areas are made with the same FRP material that any other slides are made of.
An FRP slide is used at so many of these locations due to its many benefits. FRP material is not impacted by the weather as much as wood or metal might be. It will also remain free from rust. FRP is a much safer choice to use, and that is why slides and other playground equipment are made from it.
