Signs You Might Need Transmission Repair

by | Dec 8, 2017 | Automotive

Your transmission essentially ensures that your wheels and engine are turning in sync together. There are manual and automatic options, and each has an array of different components. Depending on which is starting to go bad, various symptoms might occur. It is important to know what these are so that you can get fixes made promptly by getting what you need from a transmission parts supply.

Transmission Slipping

This issue feels like you are driving in one gear and then all of the sudden, you are put into the next. Odd noises can happen with this symptom as well and are generally either a whining or another change in pitch. In some cases, the vehicle can feel suddenly underpowered and like it is struggling. It might seem like your vehicle is not properly accelerating.

Delayed Engagement

Before the vehicle goes into drive and starts to move, you will notice a delay when this symptom happens. The length of the pause varies greatly, but even when it is short, it is noticeably. There are times when it can take a few minutes for the vehicle to start moving.

Rough Shifting

When this symptom happens, you generally notice that your vehicle is either not shifting smoothly or it might feel like it will not shift gears at all. In some cases, when you are shifting, you will notice a thud or a clunk.

Fluid Leak

You might notice you have to put fluid in more often or the pavement under the front of your vehicle is constantly wet. Transmission fluid usually has an amber or a red color, so it is relatively easy to notice when it is leaking.

With this information, it is a bit easier to determine when your vehicle’s transmission is starting to fail. Have this investigated by a qualified mechanic right away and replace any of the bad components with quality ones from a transmission parts supply.
