How to Tell Which Floor Lock You Need

by | Nov 26, 2018 | Equipment

Casters are a common piece of equipment for carts and tables, and it falls to the user to determine what safety features should be used with them. Take a locking caster, for example. These are similar to Hammerlock casters and other caster products, but they feature a lock for the wheel. Once locked, the wheel is unable to spin, and it is a great innovation for keeping the unit stationary. There are however different types of locks and knowing which one you will go a long way in making sure that your cart or table is secure.

A Look at Floor Locks

Floor locks provide a sense of security which will certainly give you peace of mind, but there are several different types. Some of the considerations you might want to make before choosing floor locks with your Hammerlock casters include:

  • Weight Capacity

  • Size

  • Locking Mechanism

With these three items in mind, let’s take a quick look at the different types of floor locks that you can expect to find.

Standard Floor Locks

This is the most common type of floor lock that you will find, and it is intended to rest on level surfaces. Typically, the wheels will measure between 4” and 8”.

The Double-Pedal Style Lock

This is much like the standard floor lock, other than the fact that it features a double lock for additional security. This one requires two pedals to unlock, which is useful in daycares where children might be running loose.

Heavy Duty Locks

A heavy duty lock can be used on an uneven floor, and they can support far more weight than a standard floor lock. These are perfect for industries that move extremely heavy products, such as steel mills or auto repair shops.

These are the three most common types of floor locks, and you should choose one depending on your industry. It is often a matter of safety, so don’t choose lightly!
