The Organizations That Endorse And Approve Certified Welding

by | Sep 24, 2019 | Metal Fabrication

The demand for welders skilled in their trade is high. Fabrication companies rely on those working in this trade to provide them with the capability to deliver certain services for their customers. While many welders arrive job-ready in shops in Cleveland with the right qualifications, not all are certified. Welding at this level requires the approval of one of several organizations.

Organizations Providing Certification

Many welders arrive at fabrication shops straight from their school or college. They have undertaken course work and passed both written examinations and practical tests. However, while this may make them qualified, it does not mean they are certified welders. To achieve this goal, they must undergo a series of tests provided by one of several organizations. The three dominant ones capable of providing welding certification of this level are:

1. The American Welding Society (AWS): The focus of this organization is on structural welding. They make certain all that apply under them completely comprehend the codes regarding bridges and other structures.2. The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Section IX: The ASME has a different focus. They ensure their applicants understand the codes and methods for the fabricating/welding boilers and other pressure vessels.3. The American Petroleum Institute (API): The API’s concern is the certification of welders who can address the various fabrication/welding issues of their industry. Its concerns are pipeline welding and similar actions.

An alternative to this organizational approach is company-certification. The fabrication company may execute its own certified welding course, complete with exams.

Certified Welding

Fabrication shops in Cleveland need skilled, experienced, and talented welders. While qualified welders may provide acceptable work, many of their customers are looking for higher levels of skill. As a result, fabrication shops hire a certain percentage of certified welders. Whether they have achieved their certified welding qualifications from a specific organization or in-shop, they provide the credibility the fabrication shop may need to attract clientele.
