The Pros And Cons Of Ionized Water

There are many companies that claim to have the best water ionizer even though the results from the ionization process are the same, alkaline water.

These machines take tap water, filter it and put it through a process called ionization. This process, also known as electrolysis uses a weak electrical charge. There are electrodes in the ionizer, one charged positive, the other being negatively charged. During the process, the atoms in water either give electrons to the electrodes or receive electrons. The resulting water is either more acidic or more alkaline. The normal pH of tap water is 7; this is referred to as neutral. Alkaline water has a higher pH and acidic water less.

The company that makes the best water ionizer claim that there are numerous benefits to drinking alkaline water. They claim that you have increased energy levels, and it counteracts the negative effects of acidic foods that we eat. Some of the manufacturers have posted testimonials from professional athletes who swear that ionized water gives them increased energy and helps them maintain their focus.

Other uses and benefits:

Water ionizers sell anywhere from $1,000 to $6,000 and are attached to a tap. There are some models which are located in-line and are under the sink. There are two spigots, one, which dispenses alkaline water, which is used for drinking, the other dispenses acid water which is used for cleaning, and it is especially good for skin cleansing. The best water ionizer is adjustable for the degree of alkalinity, and they all have integral filters to remove impurities.

When the alkalinity is adjusted, four different waters are the result. Very acidic water, called sanitary water is for general cleaning and disinfecting of cutlery and chopping boards. What is called beauty water helps to close the pores or the face after washing it, neutral water is used for making baby formula and for taking medications and a stronger alkaline water has cleansing power and can remove toilet and floor stains.

Claims not backed by studies:

There are doctors and others in the scientific community who believe that the claims are bogus as there have not been any high-quality studies made. They state that the evidence is lacking and that even safety has not been ascertained, also, the machines are very expensive.

Doctors claim that basically, water is water. It enters the stomach after digestion, and it leaves the stomach at a pH of 6.8 regardless of the pH when it was first taken into the stomach. The chemists agree that high alkaline water can be an effective cleanser, but they say there is no evidence that it has any effect, good or bad, on the skin or pores.
