Tips For Buying Quality Capacitor Discharge Studs

One of the advantages that any contractor, manufacturer or builder quickly discovers is that a professional, reliable supplier for parts and materials is a key factor in getting any job done correctly and on time.

For fabrication, manufacturing and for Original Equipment Manufacturers, having the right capacitor discharge studs for both the project as well as to work with the equipment in use is critically important. Having to work with poor quality CD weld studs not only creates problems with quality control, but it can also slow down the process.

There are several different options to consider in capacitor discharge studs. These include the design of the stud as well as the metal or alloy it is made of. They can be offered in standard as well as metric options, which is important for companies that are exporting their products outside of the United States.

Option in Metals and Alloys

For all types of CD weld studs, common metals and alloys in include mild steel, stainless steel as well as aluminum. All have their own unique benefits and attributes that make them ideal for specific types of applications.

Stainless steel and aluminum are resistant to corrosion, which is an important factor in many applications. While mild steel is not as corrosion resistant, it is more malleable and therefore often used as a match for fabricated items.

Standard Size or Custom Options

While many applications will use standard sizes of capacitor discharge studs in the various alloys and with the fully threaded or non-threaded design, some jobs may require custom sizes in these weld studs.

Customization may also include having the weld studs manufactured using a specific metal or alloy that is not mild steel, stainless steel or aluminum. There are some companies that specialize in customization of CD studs, but not all suppliers will offer this option.
