Tips for Covering Surfaces With Ease When Using a Foam Paint Roller

Painting with a foam roller is beneficial because you can cover a large area at one time. When using this type of tool for painting, there are a few techniques that you can keep in mind to obtain the best appearance on the surface you’re covering.

Loaded With Paint

When you dip a solvent resistant foam roller for painting into the paint you’re going to use, try to get it as covered as possible. Let the roller sit in the paint for a few seconds instead of just rolling it in a pan of paint. This will ensure that there is plenty of paint to cover more areas.

From the Bottom Up When Painting

Start close to the bottom of the wall you’re painting so that you can sweep up the surface in an even stroke. This will allow you to use the foam roller for painting to come back down to cover the same line, saturating the color used and ensuring that you cover any streaks that might be present.

New Horizons

When you’re painting near the top of a wall, use the roller in a horizontal fashion. Try to use one stroke of paint instead of starting and stopping to fill the roller again as this can create a line between the horizontal and vertical areas. Get the edges as close together as possible so that they work in a seamless fashion. The open end of the roller can be used when painting corners and around molding in order to prevent jagged brush marks.
