Types of Car Sound Deadening Material

When it comes to car sound deadening, there are a few different options available on the market at shops such as B-Quiet. Here are some of the most popular types of car sound deadening material and compare their effectiveness. By the end, you should have a good idea of which product is right for your needs.

Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV)

One of the most popular sound-deadening materials on the market is mass-loaded vinyl (MLV). MLV is a heavy-duty material that is typically used in commercial applications. It’s also often used in race cars and other high-performance vehicles.

The main advantage of MLV is that it’s extremely effective at blocking out noise. In fact, it’s so good at noise reduction that it can even be used to block out low-frequency sounds such as engine rumble and road noise.

One downside of MLV is that it’s very thick and can be difficult to work with. It’s also one of the more expensive sound-deadening materials on the market.

Pyramid Foam

Pyramid foam is another popular type of car sound deadening material. Pyramid foam is a bit thinner than MLV and, as a result, is easier to work with. It’s also a bit less expensive than MLV.

However, pyramid foam doesn’t quite offer the same level of noise reduction as MLV. It’s still an effective sound deadener, but it may not be suitable for applications where extreme noise reduction is required.

Butyl Rubber

Butyl rubber is a third option for car sound deadening. Butyl rubber is like MLV in terms of thickness and weight. However, it’s significantly less expensive than MLV. Butyl rubber is also quite effective at reducing noise, although not quite as much as MLV.

Butyl rubber has one big advantage over MLV, though – it’s much easier to work with. So if you’re looking for an effective sound deadener that’s also easy to work with, butyl rubber may be the right choice for you.
