There are so many different styles of wedding bands, engagement rings, wedding sets or custom wedding rings that couples have a great deal of freedom in making their selections.
However, with all these options it can sometimes be a bit confusing to try to decide on a simple gold band, which is very traditionally, or the choice of elegant or more ornate diamond wedding bands.
These wedding bands can be worn by both men and women, and making the choice between all of the option is typically a couple decision. While the man may choose the engagement ring, the couple typically is going to shop together for the wedding bands, unless they purchase the complete wedding set.
Alone or with the Engagement Ring
While men today may also wear engagement rings, it is not common for the husband to continue to wear the engagement ring on his wedding ring finger after the marriage. The bride typically continues to wear the engagement ring and the wedding band, or she may choose to wear just the band and keep the engagement ring to wear for special events.
If the diamond wedding bands are going to be worn continuously and the bride is also going to wear her engagement ring part or all of the time with the band, making sure the two fit on the finger together and look good side by side will be important.
Width of the Band
Wedding bands can come in a range of different widths. Generally, men’s rings tend to have a wider and thicker band and be a heavier overall ring than those found as wedding bands for women.
The width of the band will make the ring more obvious or more subtle. Thinner bands will also have smaller diamond chips or pavé types of glittering surfaces. Channel styles of bands are popular, as are those with single diamond chips inset round the band.
Wider rings can have larger diamonds, more ornate patterning on the band, and may be easier to engrave on the inside or the outside of the band.
You will also need to choose the metal for your diamond wedding bands. Gold is traditional, either in 18k or 14k, but white gold, rose gold and platinum all great choices. Choosing wedding bands with diamonds is a great option and one that will allow you to show your love for decades to come.
